HIGH POINT, N.C. – As people are wondering what to do with debris and fallen trees, High Point and Greensboro have relaxed their yard waste rules.

The City of High Point said the standard yard waste rules will be relaxed for a couple weeks.

High Point City Manager Strib Boynton said residents need to adhere to the following guidelines for collection:

• Place limbs, trees, and yard waste at the street behind the curb or behind the ditch.
• To assist with efficient removal of yard waste, please place material (trees and limbs) in a uniform manner, neat piles, not exceeding 6-8 feet in length. Separate limb piles to facilitate loading.
• In no case should debris be placed in the street.
• Do not mix different types of waste (yard waste w/ demolition debris/metal guttering/siding/etc.) as each type goes to a different facility.
• Place yard waste in separate piles at the curb in an area clear from overhead wires, trees/tree limbs, mailboxes or other endangerments that could interfere with its collection.
• City Residents will also be allowed to take material to the Ingleside Compost Facility for free.
• If tree material is too large or heavy for the City equipment to collect, property owner will be notified to hire a contractor to remove.
• Any material handled by a Contractor or Tree Company should be removed from the site and hauled away by the contractor.

Officials said High Point will be collecting tree and limb material for several weeks.

Collection will not be on a particular schedule, but will be collected as crews are able to mobilize into various neighborhoods.

Greensboro is waiving its curbside yard waste restrictions now through March 28.

That means all people have to do is pile fallen limbs and other storm debris in a trash can, put it in a bag or bundle it.

City crews in Winston-Salem ask people to put fallen limbs and other yard debris in a waste cart.

Anyone who doesn’t have one can put the debris on the side of the road and crews will pick it up.
