BURLINGTON, N.C. — Burlington police have responded to numerous calls relating to traffic conditions and weather conditions during the recent storm.

Burlington police said they’ve responded to nearly 800 calls between Friday to Saturday afternoon and nearly 300 were weather (traffic) related.

They said the remaining calls were police related. On a normal day, police said they respond to about 250 calls in a 24 hour period.

They said they responded to 286 calls between 6 and 10 a.m. Friday.

Burlington reported the following type of weather related incidents:

  • 270 trees in road or blocking ½ the street
  • 15 trees blocking the entire street
  • 15 trees blocking the entire street mixed with power lines
  • 100 power/utility lines down

    • While power is out in a many areas of Burlington, several intersections do not have working traffic signals.

    Most of these intersections are not staffed with police officers or anyone who may be directing traffic.

    Traffic lights that do not have power should be treated as 4-way-stops.

    Officials are asking people who have downed trees or branches in their yard to cut or have those pieces cut into pieces no longer than 6 feet long and place them at the curb next to the road in front of their house. Do not place the items in the road, so to not obstruct vehicle traffic.
