BURLINGTON, N.C. – Burlington city officials said they are transitioning into a debris removal phase after the ice storm on Friday.
During the early response, officials said they have been cutting and pushing debris to the side in order clear roadways.
“Residents can assist in this process by properly preparing debris for pick-up,” officials said, in a statement. “Debris should be piled in a safe location in the right-of-way that is accessible, but does not block either the street or sidewalk.”
City officials suggest the following guidelines for debris removal:
- Debris needs to be cut in lengths not exceeding 6 feet.
- While the ordinance limits collection of debris to six inches in diameter, city staff will make every effort to collect segments larger than that.
- For worker safety, only clear bags may be used if bagging yard waste.
