SNOW HILL, N.C. — Two men have been charged after deputies say an infant girl was accidentally shot and killed.

According to WNCT, the baby was accidentally shot with a “high power rifle” around 9 p.m. Wednesday in Greene County.

The baby’s father, Allen Ormond, 28, has been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.

WNCT reports that Ormond is a convicted felon.

Deputies also charged 28-year-old Kevin Elkins of Kinston with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of stolen property.

Deputies say Elkins bought the gun to the house that day. Neither Elkins and Ormond are allowed to carry weapons.

Deputies are not releasing the name of the baby. Both suspects are in the Greene County Detention Center.
